In this way, we aim to balance the importance of the surfing images with respect to the cultural character that each spot carries.

The Chip by Josh Oldenburg

Josh - "At the beginning of summer I had the pleasure of creating a modern Chip. The Chip originated in the late 50's and is often time considered the precursor to many of the early pig designs that largely dominated the first half of the 1960's. This particular board has a flat rocker that is complimented by a soft rolled bottom, a combination that makes for an extremely fast board in trim."

Desillusion Magazine | Benjamin Jean Jean

Desillusion Magazine X Benjamin Jean Jean from Desillusion Magazine on Vimeo.
Desillusion magazine teamed up with Benjamin JeanJean, a French artist who's into just about everything ( Photography - Drawing - Design ) and who is surrounded by an extremely dreamlike and mystical world. This association gave way to the creation of a highly atypical surfboard.

Inspired by the mag's motto "Death of cool', Benjamin Jean Jean created more than fifty illustrations, each one unique, and then shaped the whole thing himself, which in turn is more than just a board, it’s plain art. The board was shown at an exhibition, last month in Biarritz, France.

Red Ekstrom by Hydrodynamica

"Asymmetric design by Carl Ekstrom. The bamboo fins, the shape, the glassing...everything... done by Carl, by hand, in his garage and workshop. Hard to put a price on something like this, but I reckon its very valuable."

FIN SOUP

FIN SOUP from Deus Customs on Vimeo.
Fin Soup was a cook off which called for two cups of both fined and un-finned ingredients, a cut of surf-swap, a dash of live music and one dozen shapers. Hailing from the corners of San Diego, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles, and as far as Japan, the most renowned chefs came by to demonstrate and show us what they have been cooking up and takin out...

*Note: Fin Soup is best enjoyed chilled with one fin.

A special thanks goes out to all who participated, including: Seea, Yellow Rat, Alva Surfcraft, Kookbox, Mason Dyer Brand, The Piapo Society, 4th Gear Flyers, Wegener, Schuyler Creative, Josh Hall Surfboards, Brink Surfboards, Bing Surfboards, The Longboard Collectors Club, and Sherman for fixin' our boards!

Also, The Imposters', Gantez Warrior, and The Hindu Pirates for keepin' our toes a tappin and fingers snapin'!

Amazing Shot

When I visited the blog Howard-Windaddiction, I came across with this amazing photo.
Here is his the story published by Howard himself!

Howard-Windaddiction - Dropped down to Bude over the weekend and caught up with an old aquaintance, Roger Tout at his store in town. This picture has been hanging over his till for a couple of years now, and I meant to ask last time who took the photo. For those who don't know its a very famous spot nearby, and I just love the slab behind almost as much as the extremity of the surfer in amongst the storm. Clive Symm is a locally based photographer, who has one hell stretch of coastline for inspiration.

VANS SALINAS LONGBOARD SURFING FESTIVAL 2012

VANS SALINAS LONGBOARD SURFING FESTIVAL from Where is Asturias on Vimeo.
The Vans Salinas Longboard festival is an annual surfing event that takes place in the seaside town of Salinas on the last week in July. The word “Festival” is the key here because even though surfing competitions are held, this four day event offers a heady mix of good surf, good sounds, great people and lots and lots of parties in a way only the Spanish can do best.

The festival has been running for 11 years now and is considered to be the largest of its kind in Europe and is in the top three Longboard events in the world. This is very apparent by the eclectic mix of people attending who, along with the locals, create a nice relaxed vibe that invites you to stay even if you are not that interested in surfing.
Grab a beer, find a nice spot to perch and just observe.

The festival is a bit of a Mecca for longboarders and since it was first held back in 2001 (which back then was more of a reunion than a festival), the party has grown and grown and is now marked indelibly on the calendars of both pro’s and amateurs alike.

The Vans Salinas Longboard festival is just one of many surfing events that take place throughout Asturias and visitors should also keep in mind that classic waves such as Rodiles and Xago are just a short distance away. The festival is a great highlight when planning a full-on surf trip along the awesome Asturian coastline.
