SURFED.AT

What is Surfed.at?

Surfed.at is a growing directory of thousands of surf spots around the world. It lets you discover new places to surf, record and rate the places you want to try.

What’s up with the spot ratings?

To help you find the world’s awesomest surf spots, the rating of each spot takes a few things in to consideration. The first thing is pretty obvious, the rating that you the user gives it. So no spot will be given a good rating if people think its crap. Now, there is one thing we all hate more than anything, and that is crowds. So when more people add a spot, the spot’s ranking goes down because it’s being spoilt by crowds. This is calculated like a bell curve, so a spot gets a better score as people add it but when a certain amount people has added it, the score starts to diminish. Make sense?

The third thing that influences a score is a bit trickier, it is the remoteness of the spot. We reckon a spot with a good ranking that is far removed from another spot and has few people that has surfed there is going to be one of those fairy tale spots that we all dream about surfing. That is why you’ll see places like Teahupo ranking really well.

Now how about my ranking?

As you add your surf spots, you inherit the points from the spot.
