Canggu Surf Community Inaugural Longboard Event 2014

Canggu Surf Community Inaugural Longboard Event 2014 from Deus ex Machina on Vimeo.
They came one and all, local and expat, old and young, from fifty to twelve.
All with one thing they shared, a common thread if you like.
They all were there to compete in the inaugural Canggu Surf Community’s Longboard event.
A fabulous day in the sun spent with likeminded kinfolk from Bali and around the world.
It was a mixture of talent and tactics, mischief and antics.
Smiles spread through the gaggle that gathered to gander on the grassy knoll above Tugu.
Don’t take our word for it, as the Deus Media team were on hand and Andre Cricket shot the proverbial out of it. He’s come back to us today with this, his little visual gift.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we did, now and on the day.

Surf Photographer | Clark Little

The Inertia: Surfing's Definitive Community //http://www.theinertia.com

Getting tossed around by shorebreak and slammed into the sand day after day is a rough go; Clark Little wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, for the North Shore local, it's all in a good day's work. But the Waimea addict didn't grow up snapping shots with his father's camera like so many photographers do. He instead set out to capture his longtime stomping grounds when his wife came home with a framed photograph of Waimea shorebreak, an image he figured he would be able to easily replicate. Having never owned a camera, he threw a cheap "waterproof" casing over a cheaper point-and-shoot and headed out to the beach. Since that first attempt, Clark has not only emulated his wife's purchased wall art, but — with a gallery in Haleiwa and international recognition — has become a heavily respected fixture of wave photography.

Special thanks to Tom Servais and Clark Little archives for the gorgeous imagery, and check out Clark's new, 160-page coffee table book, Shorebreak, to see more of his work.

Vans | Star Wars

To introduce the special edition Vans x Star Wars collection (shoes and apparel) launching June 2014, we went to the Vans Off the Wall Skatepark in Huntington Beach, CA to film a skate contest set in 1980. After legendary skateboarder Christian Hosoi finishes his run, a rookie wookie (played by another legend — Steve Caballero) rips the bowl and receives mixed scores from the judges. Tony Alva, Jeff Grosso and Vans surf team riders Leila Hurst and Alex Knost can be seen cheering in the crowd alongside Stormtroopers, Jawas and Chewbacca.

OffTheWall.TV is a digital online video network chronicling the unique aspects of Vans' brand of youth culture through original video projects and exclusive content exploring skate, surf, snow, BMX, girls' lifestyle, art and music. With more than 45 years of rich heritage and far-reaching influence in youth culture, OffTheWall.TV story-telling captures the creative expressions of Vans' "Off the Wall" identity.

I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night | Trailer

I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night - Trailer from Deus ex Machina on Vimeo.
'I HAD TO MUCH TOO DREAM LAST NIGHT' follows the simplistic travels of two surfers, meeting friends along the way, on an open ended journey across an archipelago littered with islands and breaks. Connected by ribbons of tarmac and separated by deep ocean valleys these islands have been here for millennia and will continue to do so for millennia to come. An veritable eden for waves of every nature, from long reeling glassy points breaks to sketchy urchin infested waves in the middle of nowhere

The Legend Series | Reynolds "Renny" Yater

The Legend Series: Reynolds 'Renny' Yater from SeaVees on Vimeo.
Check out our partnership with legendary surfboard shaper, Reynolds 'Renny' Yater: https://www.seavees.com/the-legend-series/reynolds-renny-yater

To kick off The Legend Series celebration, SeaVees partnered with renowned surfboard shaper, Reynolds “Renny” Yater. In the summer of 1964, the same year SeaVees was originally founded, Yater honed his talent to carve out the original Yater Spoon. The Spoon was the thinnest, lightest and most maneuverable longboard of its time. The shape remains the board of choice among many long-boarders today, solidifying Yater’s status as a surf icon.

To honor the dual 50th anniversaries and Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Yater shaped a custom Spoon for SeaVees that will be available on auction from March 16th to 26th. All proceeds from the auction, as well as 10% from all sales of the 08/63 Hermosa Plimsoll Standards (https://www.seavees.com/products/08-slash-63-hermosa-plimsoll/natural), will be donated to Colon Cancer research at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, but as many as 80% of these deaths could be prevented through regular screening in those age 50 or older. To help raise awareness about colon cancer and screening for the disease, the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic has worked since 2000 to raise widespread awareness of colon cancer prevention and the importance of early detection.

Shapers Series: Jim Phillips by Anastasia Petukhova

This is an awesome work by Anastasia Petukhova that I saw on the Thomas Patrick blog, is a series of black and white photographs, a photo documentary about the process of surfboard building.

Anastasia Petukhova

The first time I saw that warehouse I felt like I just entered Disneyland. The place was magic. There were blanks all over the place, wooden, foam, and some really old ones that looked like they’ve been there forever. The vivid smell of the different kinds of wood was very tempting and I spend minutes walking around and smelling everything. There was a blank being glued and it smelled even more awesome. The variety of tools was impressive. And then there was Jim. I knew I had to come back because I got there to photograph Matt Calvani. I never plan for two shoots for the same day. Everyone deserves full attention and I need to keep my focus for the whole time of the shoot.

So I planned to come back another day and spend it with Jim. This was that day.
