ESCAPE FROM BIGFOOT COUNTRY from Woody and the Blue Ox on Vimeo.
Cascadia's Bigfoot Country had treated our traveler Trevor Gordon to nothing but fun waves and pleasurable camping experiences. That, however, was before a close encounter with none other than the mythical Bigfoot himself.

Thus, Trevor thought it wise to head back home to Carpinteria, California. But before he left, he availed himself of some deserted waves.

The One Motorcycle Show | No. Five | Part 2

The One Motorcycle Show, No. Five: Part 2 from See See Motor Coffee Co. on Vimeo.
Well the dust has settled–or maybe more appropriately, "the snow has melted"–since The One Motorcycle Show 2014. Our 5th year in operation: a milestone we never anticipated when we first dreamt this up back in 2010.

This was our biggest and best show to date. We worked harder and longer to get more bikes, more people, and more fun packed into a weekend celebrating 2-wheeled culture. Despite the worst snow storm Portland has seen in 5 years, we pulled it off without a hitch. It was a little worrisome that people would be scared away by the weather, but that was not the case. We had more than 9,000 attendees over two days and more than 120 bikes in the show!

It was smiles for miles. Check www.the1moto.com and seeseemotorcycles.com for more

Madi in Noosa

NOOSA FEST UPDATE: FIRST IN, BEST DRESSED
Wednesday, 19 February 2014

International competitors start arriving. The Poms are lurking in Coolum and Byron Bay, waiting for the swell to come up, but the first official international arrival in Noosa was on February 12, all the way from Oporto, Portugal. Over 50s competitor Jose Pedro Marcos flew in for his first ever Noosa Surf Festival with his mother, Virginia (“Zizete”) Marcos, to begin a 42-day stay.

“I have been dreaming of coming to this event for many years,” Jose told local newspaper Noosa Today. “Friends have been telling me about it and I have seen the photos and the videos for more than a decade, but always there has been a reason I could not come – obligations with my work or other travel plans. Now I am here, I can see with my own eyes that it is a very beautiful place. All we need is some surf!”

Neither Jose nor Zizete has been to Australia before, and Zizete plans to take time out from Noosa to visit the Sydney Opera House and other attractions. But for Jose, this holiday is a Noosa mission. “I want to meet the local surfers, get to know the town, and most importantly, experience those beautiful waves on the points.”

Jose, 51, has worked in real estate development in his home town, and also in the surf industry, running surf schools. A year-round surfer most of his life, he admits that Oporto’s cold winters these days force him to “surf indoors” at the gym. “Europe was cold and stormy when we left, and now this,” he exclaims, taking in a beautiful, sunny afternoon at First Point. “We are very happy to be here.”

It’s been unseasonally flat for more than a week. Jose has 33 days left and counting, and there’s a little pulse on the horizon for late weekend. Pray for surf!

ALL MONEY DIVISIONS EXCEPT SEAGLASS FINLESS NOW FULL
Due to unprecedented demand from around the world, the three major pro divisions at the festival are now full, with waiting lists for the Vans Logger Pro and the Golden Breed Noserider Pro. The Seaglass Project Finless still has a few slots open. Most age divisions are now close to full too, and the Classic Malibu Teams Challenge is full with a waiting list.

Festival director Phil Jarratt said: “It breaks my heart when great surfers like the Delpero brothers from France can’t get a start in the pros, but we have a very full week of competition and there’s not much we can do. I guess the message is, get your entries in early.”

Phil advised competitors and hopefuls to keep a close watch on the Competitors tab at the Cricks Noosa Festival of Surfing website:

10’7″ Bing 1961 Big Wave Gun Replica

"The original big wave gun (seen to your right) was shaped by Bing Copeland at age 25 in 1961. He shaped it with the intent of riding it during huge swell conditions in Southern California. The noseblocks, tailblocks and stringers are all redwood and pine. The fin is a cut down version of Bing’s signature fin of the time. Unfortunately a swell big enough never arrived so it hung on a wall in Bing Surfboards Shop and later at George’s Surf Center in Huntington Beach. The funny thing is Bing never actually sold the board; it just disappeared and somehow ended up exchanging hands among classic surfboard collectors. In July of 2004 the board ended up being sold on eBay for $18,500. It’s good to see Bing Surfboards last 43 years and appreciate in value.

The Big Wave Gun replica was made at the request of Charles Barrieu. Bing Copeland came back into the shaping bay to put his hands on the foam blank. Matt Calvani finished the shape to make sure it was perfect and worked closely with Jim Philips to create the noseblocks, tailblocks and fin for the board. Matt Calvani oversaw the entire process to make sure the board was as close to the original as possible. The colors on this board are different but it looks amazing. It was quite the process to get this board completed and it’s a testament to the craftsmanship of Bing Copeland back in 1961. We are proud of this one and it shows that well crafted, quality surfboards are still being made today at the Bing factory. We know Charles will enjoy this for many years to come." -

Now For Then | A Short Film by Mikey DeTemple

Amazing short film by Mikey DeTemple!!!

When the weather turns, JACK SPADE heads east. East to the tip of Long Island, to towns like Springs and Shelter Island that for decades have been sanctuaries to writers and artists. These are spots to relax and recharge, venues to work on personal projects away from the grind, and places to reinvent yourself.

New York native Mikey DeTemple knows a thing or two about the back and forth. The four-time East Coast Surfing Champion may be the only pro surfer splitting time between Brooklyn and Montauk. When he's not surfing Mikey expresses himself through films known for their lush cinematography, controlled pacing and stirring soundtracks. His second full-length feature, Sight/Sound, was Eastern Surfing Magazine's Video of the Year, and the best-selling surf film of 2011.

Mikey's surfing has been described as "classic yet rebellious, stylish but aggressive, competitive though utterly soulful." He brings this spirit to everything he does, as he hops between both sides of the lens, the sea and the editing room.

EXOTIC AQUATIC DANCES | THE DONIZETTI

EXOTIC AQUATIC DANCES | THE DONIZETTI from Jan Latussek on Vimeo.
RIDER: CLOVIS DONIZETTI MUSIC: JAZZ A GOGO by FRANCE GALL

The idea behind the EXOTIC AQUATIC DANCES is that of combining music and surf, always trying to find between both elements the balance that perfectly defines surfing. Finding rythms, cadence, pulse, tempos that may be used to reinforce, and highlight the moves of a given surfer, at a given wave. That is why these videos are edited with footage shot in one single session.

The beauty of Longboarding lies basically in one key element, Style, and that one is unique, personal, and non-transferable. Style is a combination of factors, the wave, the board, the fin, experience, concentration, repetition, muscular memory... but above all, Style is the way the surfer has to read the wave, to interpret movement, to feel the energy and to link his steps and maneuvers in a fluid, light and harmonious way.

Riding a wave is much like dancing, the surfer has to flow and feel, the wave is his music. His way of interpreting the movement, of integrating himself into the rythm, to take the steps at the right moment, without skipping a beat, decorating each move with his own signature, that is STYLE.

Clovis Donizetti, is probably the most talented french classic longboarder nowadays. His style is based on an easygoing and precise flow that is mainly influenced by the great early Californian longboarders, seasoned with that unique touch that defines french longboarders, the real guardians of the European Continental Old School.
Clean classic moves with no extra decoration, keeping it simple, neat and clean. Less is more.

Since he first came to surf in the Salinas Longboard Festival, many of us fell in love with his ways. Always close, always friendly. Always calm. That is Clovis and this, his Exotic Aquatic Dance, was shot with little time, during dusk a late day in August in San Vicente de la Barquera, northern Spain, while he was testing in relatively small waves, his new Fat Cat de Crèam shaped by Robin Kegel
