How to do a Resin Tint Glass Job on a Surfboard

A surfboard really comes to life during the glassing process. The fiberglass adds strength, flex, style, weight and seals the shaper's design inside. Most of the time it's a surfboard with a resin pigment swirl, tint, fabric inlay or gloss polish that grabs your attention and says, "look at me, ride me, I'm cool."
We love that every shaper and glasser has artistic abilities that come out in their work. Since we did a shaping video with Ben Aipa, we thought it would make sense to follow up with a color lamination video with Otis from Hawaii Surf Factory. Otis has been making surfboards for over 30 years and is a true master craftsman.
In this video Otis does a standard magenta tint on the bottom of a Dick Brewer surfboard followed by a pink tint deck inlay. We also cover how to do a standard magenta deck tint as well. With as much experience as Otis has, you'll want to pay attention to the details and the way he uses his tools. You can see more of Otis' work at www.hawaiisurffactory.com and check out the glassing tools and materials he uses at http://shop.fiberglasshawaii.com.

Good morning Cornwall

Good morning Cornwall from wavedreamer on Vimeo.
I popped down the coast to catch up with my friends Russ and Jill. We spent a couple of glorious mornings on the beach, you can see Russ’s great still photos at www.russpierrephotography.blogspot.com/ Thanks to James Parry, Sam Bleakly, Elliot Dudley, his partner and the men in the harbour for letting me film them.

I was also there to see Andy Cummins from SAS surfing a very special board (the quad half way through the clip). The blank comes from Home Blown and is made from about 34% plant based materials and the resin is from 98% plant based materials – producing a board that has more than 50% sustainable materials. They are priced about the same as their petrochemical cousins and under strength tests are proving to be stronger and lighter than polyurethane blanks. Andy was also testing out the camera board for a project we are working on for a bigger darker day.

Thanks so much to Richard Asquith and Henry Price for the beautiful track called Haven. You can see what they are up to at www.friend-of-mine.co.uk

Playing on the Playa de Salinas | Top Surf Spots, Ep. 5

Sit back and get the inside scoop on one of northern Spain's most popular summertime surf spots, Salinas, in the region of Asturias.

Local living legend, Ignacio "Chuk" Solis, gives you the lowdown on his local surf break and entertains us with his retro inspired longboard surfing groove steps, maybe the best part of this surf video.

Salinas is situated JUST SO that it picks up any scrap of surf swell that the Atlantic has to offer, making it a great summer option when the rest of the surf in France or Portugal might be flat. LET'S GO!

Hand Made. The department where we rub it in the face of all the people who were either born without hands or lost them in an accident. Imagine, if you will, poor Billy No-hands turning the pages of this magazine with his feet or headband wand thingy. He comes to this page. ‘Yeah, knock yourselves out,’ he grumbles. ‘Knock yourselves out, you hand-having, tangible-world-manipulating, prawn cracker bitch-men bastards.’ Wow, is he angry. Dave Allee ain’t angry though! He’s got hands! And he does stuff with them all the time. Yay!

THROUGH THE LENS with Rob Machado | Taka's Treehouse

THROUGH THE LENS with Rob Machado - Taka's Treehouse from Through The Lens on Vimeo.
Documenting the talents of amazing people who happen to surf.

Iconic surfer Rob Machado has traveled the world for more than half his life. And during that time, he’s crossed paths with countless individuals who share a love for surfing and a passion for the arts. In his new series called Through The Lens, we meet these individuals and follow Rob as he re-connects with the people who've inspired him along the way.

In this episode, Rob has the unique opportunity to spend a week working along side legendary tree house builder Takashi Kobayashi during the final stages of what Takashi describes as “his most important tree house” to date. By working along side Takashi Rob begins to understand the power this beautiful, symbolic tree house can bring to the Tsunami stricken Sendai region of Japan. This great gift Takashi is offering to the surviving children of this region is one small step in bringing some joy, happiness, and light to a part of Japan heavily impacted by the Tsunami disaster.

Gato Heroi Japan tour 2013 from Stay Culo on Vimeo.
Casual cats Robin G Kegel (founder of Gato Heroi) and Andy Findlay thrive on passion & spontaneity. Like jazz improvisation where melodies are spontaneously created, the "Dynamic Endevours Japan tour" puts this improvisation technique into practice.

These cats use all means of transport from foot, bullet train to a fishing boat to track down some fast right peelers on a little island of the coast of Japan.
